Playbook: company of one

This is the founding promise of askTheodor made concrete: run a company of one, staffed like a hundred.

What you’ll do

• Stand up a solo-founder workspace from a head start.
• Wire one operator to several income streams.
• Decide what runs while you sleep.

1. Start from the solopreneur demo pack

Open Settings → Demos and install the solopreneur multi-stream pack. It drops a ready-to-edit set of Companies, workers, and routines into your workspace so you’re editing instead of staring at a blank page. Installs are additive and use fresh IDs, so you can layer other packs alongside it.

2. Make it yours

A pack is a head start, not a finished setup. Open each new worker and rewrite its mission and prompt to match your business. Put your brand voice and any non-negotiables in a 🌐 Workspace-scope SOP so every worker, across every stream, stays on-message.

3. Let Theodor run the floor

You’re one person, so lean on your chief-of-staff. Ask Theodor in plain language to route work across your streams:

“Across all my streams, draft this week’s content and flag anything overdue.”

Theodor sees every Company at once and delegates to the right worker — that’s how one operator covers a whole org chart.

4. Decide what runs unattended

Set routines for the recurring work (a morning brief, a weekly report) and budgets so spending can’t run away. Anything outbound stays drafted for your approval — autonomy you can trust.

WIP-limit yourself

The danger for a solo founder isn’t too few ideas — it’s too many open at once. Use Companies to contain each stream, and let “done” mean a customer paid, not “it compiles.”

One brain, many hats

Give your strategist a frontier model and your routine clerks a cheaper one. Same workforce, sensible spend.

A realistic first fortnight

Don’t build the whole org chart on day one. This sequence gets you to something that actually runs:

Days 1–3: one Company, two workers, no automation. Your main income stream only. A writer-shaped worker and a researcher-shaped one. Every task is one you started, in a chat you’re watching. You’re learning what they’re good at — nothing else matters yet.

Days 4–7: put your business in the Library. Your prices, your two best past deliverables, your top twenty customer questions, and a Workspace SOP holding your voice and your banned words. This is the least glamorous step and the one that most changes output quality. Skip it and you’ll conclude the app is mediocre.

Days 8–14: one Routine, then a second Company. Stand up the Monday briefing and read it every day for a week. Only once that’s genuinely useful, add your second income stream as its own Company — now you’ll know what to copy across.

What to actually delegate first, in rough order of payback:

• Reading and summarising things you’re avoiding (fastest win, easiest review)
• First drafts of the writing you always rewrite anyway
• The recurring admin that has a shape: follow-ups, weekly summaries, filing
• Research you’d otherwise skip entirely for lack of time

The honest failure mode for a solo founder

It’s not that the workers underperform — it’s that you build an elaborate setup and never read what it produces. Three workers you check daily beat fifteen you configured once. If a worker’s output hasn’t been opened in two weeks, delete it.
